The Red Desk Project

One of the most impactful projects we've ever undertaken involved helping to raise awareness about gun violence in Baltimore City while giving victims and the community a powerful voice. The initiative aimed to transform statistics into something tangible and emotionally resonant that could drive meaningful conversation and change.

Conceived by Laura Gede, the project centered on taking empty school desks and painting them red to represent the 112 children who lost their lives to gun violence in 2020. We documented the entire process, culminating in a moving event sponsored by Sinai Hospital that viscerally demonstrated the tragic and expansive impact of losing so many young lives. The visual representation of 112 empty red desks created an undeniable statement about the scope of this crisis. The project's significance was recognized with a local Gold Addy Award and advanced to the final rounds of the national Addy Awards, validating both its creative execution and its important social impact.
